Vasco Caves Field Trip

Please join us for an exciting field trip to Vasco Caves! We will meet at Round Valley (address above) and caravan together to Vasco Caves, so we have less vehicles and less chance of missing the unsigned turnoff from Vasco Road. It is a drive of about 20 minutes from Round Valley to Vasco Caves.  We will spend about 4 hours covering 2 to 3 miles.  Most of the walk is rolling; however, there are a few stretches of steep, potentially slippery trail and a fair amount of uneven footing.  Conditions vary considerably at Vasco, so please check the weather and be prepared for wind, sun, rain, or whatever the season may bring.  

There are restrooms at Round Valley and at the start and end of our walk at Vasco Caves. Please bring your own water.

As you know, public visitation to Vasco Caves is limited, with concern for both natural and cultural resources.  As a result, we are required to remain in a group and on a circumscribed route throughout the excursion.  In addition, the use of cell phones for photography is prohibited.  You may bring another type of camera, but please be sure that photos you take are not geotagged (do not reveal coordinates). Thanks for your understanding and helping to preserve Vasco’s resources in perpetuity.

Please bring binoculars (close-focus if you have them, for looking into the vernal pools), hand lenses, field guides if you’d like, and a lunch/snacks for the trail.
